Everest Panorama Trek
Trip Overview
The Everest Panorama Trek is a short, rewarding introduction to the Khumbu for travellers who want to see Mount Everest and experience Sherpa culture without committing to a long, high-altitude trek. In 9 days it takes you from Lukla to Namche Bazaar, Khumjung and Tengboche, never sleeping higher than about 3,860 m, yet giving you close, clear views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. It is the ideal choice if you have limited time or want a gentler taste of the Himalaya.
After the scenic flight to Lukla, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi river through pine forest and small villages into Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and climbs to Namche Bazaar, the lively trading centre of the Khumbu. From Namche you walk up to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m), set on a ridge with an outstanding view of Everest and Ama Dablam, before dropping into Khumjung. This large, traditional village of stone houses and potato fields is home to the school founded by Sir Edmund Hillary and to a monastery that keeps a famous yeti scalp.
The next day leads to Tengboche, the spiritual centre of the Khumbu, where the monastery looks straight up the valley to Everest and Ama Dablam. If you arrive in the afternoon you can usually sit quietly in on the monks’ prayers. From Tengboche you walk back to Namche, with time to explore its bakeries, shops and Sherpa culture museum, then descend through rhododendron and pine forest to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu. In spring the forests are especially colourful.
Who is this trip for?
This trek is ideal for first-time trekkers, families with older children, travellers short on time and anyone who wants the Everest views without the demands of base camp. Walking days are 4-6 hours, with some steep climbs, notably the long hill up to Namche Bazaar, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. Altitude is still a factor above 3,000 m, so the itinerary climbs gradually and your guide keeps an eye on everyone’s wellbeing. Nima Adventure, led by Managing Director Kanchha Sherpa, arranges your flights, permits, teahouses and government-licensed guide, so you can concentrate on the mountains and the warm Sherpa hospitality along the way.

Itinerary
A Nima Adventure representative welcomes you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfers you to your hotel. After checking in, you have time to rest or take a first walk around Thamel. Later your guide meets you to explain the trek, check your gear and answer any questions. Try some local food such as dal bhat or momos, then get an early night ready for tomorrow's early start. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Depending on the season, you fly to Lukla from Kathmandu or drive 4-5 hours to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap for a shorter flight. The flight gives superb views of the Himalaya before landing at Lukla's hillside airstrip. After meeting your porters, an easy, mostly downhill walk through Chaurikharka and small farming villages, past mani stones and prayer wheels, brings you to Phakding on the Dudh Koshi. Walking time 3-4 hours. Overnight in Phakding.
Following the Dudh Koshi upstream, you cross several suspension bridges, pass through the village of Monjo and enter Sagarmatha National Park. Beyond Jorsale, the high Hillary Suspension Bridge leads to the steepest climb of the trek, a long zigzag up to Namche Bazaar. On a clear day, Everest appears for the first time from a viewpoint on the way up. Take it slowly and drink plenty of water. Walking time 6-7 hours. Overnight in Namche.
After breakfast you climb above Namche, past the Syangboche airstrip, to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m), where you can enjoy a hot drink on the terrace with Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam in front of you. You then descend to Khumjung, a large Sherpa village of stone houses and fields. Visit the Hillary School and the monastery, which keeps a famous yeti scalp. Walking time 3-4 hours. Overnight in Khumjung.
From Khumjung, the trail descends to rejoin the main path near Kyangjuma, with Ama Dablam rising ahead, then drops to the river at Phunki Thenga, where water-driven prayer wheels turn beside the stream. A steady climb of around 2 hours through pine and rhododendron forest brings you to Tengboche. In the afternoon, visit the monastery, the largest in the Khumbu, and watch the evening light on Everest and Ama Dablam. Walking time 4-5 hours. Overnight in Tengboche.
After an early morning view of the mountains from the monastery grounds, you descend steeply to Phunki Thenga, then climb steadily to Sanasa and follow the scenic traverse back to Namche Bazaar. Arriving in the early afternoon, you have time to explore the town, visit the Sherpa culture museum and enjoy the bakeries and cafes. Walking time 4-5 hours. Overnight in Namche.
The trail begins with a long descent to the Hillary Suspension Bridge, then follows the Dudh Koshi back through Jorsale, Monjo and Phakding. After several short ups and downs, a final steady climb brings you to Lukla. This is your last evening in the mountains, a good time to celebrate the trek and thank your guide and porters for their help. Walking time 6-7 hours. Overnight in Lukla.
Flights leave Lukla in the early morning, when conditions are calmest. You fly to Kathmandu, or to Ramechhap with a drive back to the city, depending on the season. Mountain weather sometimes delays flights, so a little patience may be needed. The rest of the day is free to relax, shop for souvenirs or visit one of Kathmandu's heritage sites. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Your Everest Panorama Trek ends today. Depending on your flight time, you may have a few hours for a final walk around the city or a visit to Boudhanath Stupa. A Nima Adventure representative transfers you to Tribhuvan International Airport in good time for your departure. Because Lukla flights can be delayed by weather, we recommend booking your international flight with at least one spare day after the trek.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. This is the most accessible trek in the Everest region, with manageable walking days and a maximum sleeping altitude of about 3,860 m. It suits first-time trekkers, families with older children and anyone short on time. That said, the climb to Namche Bazaar is long and steep, so some preparation with regular walks and stair climbing will make the trek much more enjoyable.
Yes, weather permitting. Your first view usually comes from a viewpoint on the climb to Namche Bazaar, and the best views are from the Everest View Hotel, Khumjung and Tengboche, where Everest rises behind the Nuptse-Lhotse ridge with Ama Dablam close by. Mornings are usually clearest, while afternoon cloud is common, especially in spring.
The risk is much lower than on higher treks, but mild symptoms such as headache or poor sleep can occur above 3,000 m. The itinerary gains height gradually, your guide checks on you daily, and you sleep no higher than about 3,860 m. Drink plenty of fluids, walk slowly and tell your guide if you feel unwell. Insurance with helicopter cover is still mandatory.
You need the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit. Nima Adventure arranges both, and they are checked at Monjo and elsewhere on the trail, so carry your passport with you. Most nationalities can obtain a Nepal visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November) are the best seasons, with stable weather and clear views. Because the trek stays below 4,000 m, it also works well in December and into early winter, when skies are often clear and trails are quiet, though nights are cold. The monsoon months of June to August bring rain, cloud and frequent flight delays.
Lukla flights depend on mountain weather and are sometimes delayed or cancelled. If this happens, we rebook you on the next available flight and adjust the itinerary where possible. Because this is a short trip, we recommend keeping at least one spare day before your international flight. In some cases a helicopter can be chartered at additional cost.
